Card meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Fool is a reminder to keep your child-like innocence and enthusiasm as you move forward.  It represents a journey, a beginning, a sudden choice that needs to be made, but is a not a card to fear.  The opposite is true, in fact - embrace this journey, and move forward with the determination and fearlessness of a child.

Artists Interpretation: I was really lucky to get to paint "The Fool" card for this collaborative artist project. I wanted to depict purity, innocence and curiosity on the fool's face, wondrous desire to learn new things and excitement of setting off on a new path yet not taken, hence the little bag over the fool's shoulder. The sun is present on the background to symbolize the loving support of universe on the new journey that the fool is about to undertake. - Tanya Bond

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Magician is a card drawing on a wealth of symbolism, to tell you that you already possess the power, skill and intellect you need to proceed on a new path.  The careful and thoughtful application of these, along with a positive attitude, are all you need to succeed.

Artists Interpretation: This painting was originally done for a magazine cover, the topic was “Wizards” and they gave me total freedom. I painted this older wizard the way I saw him, not the standard type wizards with a lot of robes and hoods or pointed hat! I saw my wizard old, lean, but strong, experienced and wise. He spent all his time and energy studying and practicing his magic, magic was his life…much like art is my life…and I don’t think I look like the “standard movie type artist”! – Larry Elmore

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: Often depicted surrounded by wheat, The Empress is a card of abundance, prosperity and fertility.  She is frequently a sign of motherhood, but can be equally supportive in a reading about a new creative project or even work situation.  She is a positive, encouraging card - the archetypal mother.

Artists Interpretation: The Empress embodies the essence of being both a woman and a creator of life.  I believe that the lady is the main importance and within both her hands, she holds the two icons of the Empress. She wears a heart-shaped chest plate for love. Pomegranate is mentioned to decorate her dress so I drew jewellery that resembles the seeds on her dress. - Sarah Lau

Sarah Lau’s inspirations range from a mix of western and Japanese animation influences such as Disney, Don Bluth films to Full Metal Alchemist. She wrote her first comic in school. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Emperor is a patriarchal, worldly-wise figure bringing stability and authority to any reading he appears in.  This card suggests success and achievement are yours, if you look at the situation with a level head, weighing your decision carefully, based on experience and not emotions.  

Artists Interpretation: I kept to the traditional symbols related to this card, the Emperor with symbols of power like dominant gold, ankh sceptre and royal red color.  Aries heads , the sun in the background, white beard symbolizing wisdom, everything points to power and rulership –like the mountains in the back, showing him on top of the world.  Sticking to traditional visualisation with this card felt appropriate. - Aleksandra Gavrilovic

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Hierophant is a very traditional card, often showing the need to follow convention, be it a personal need in your life, or just in your current course of action.  Maybe you need to follow the rules to the letter in order to succeed in your current task.  There is also an element in this card of learning from those with more experience than you.

Artists Interpretation: Traditionally The Hierophant is depicted as being male, most frequently a pope.  I don't often draw men and I'm not Catholic, so to me it seemed a bit strange to draw one.  Usually the figure in this card is depicted with two fingers pointed to the sky and two fingers pointed to the ground to symbolize the bridge between Heaven and Earth.  In most Earth-based religions, a more fitting symbol would be hands raised to the sky, feet on the ground, like the priestess I depicted here. - Tiffany Toland-Scott

Authors Meaning by Trish Sullivan: The Lovers shows the passionate union of the polar opposites that are man and woman, but it illustrates more than just lust, showing the true merging of two souls.  This card is not as simple as it seems - just as love often requires tough decisions, when this card appears, it suggests that you will need to carefully consider your values, and the consequences of your decisions.

Artists Interpretion: This is a kind of self portrait of myself and my wonderful husband Jason, we also have a beautiful 16 months old baby girl named Luna Rosa (which translate as Pink Moon) and she is represented as the pink moon glowing over us - Delphine Lévesque Demers

Card Meaning Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: Victory and control are two major aspects of this card.  While The Chariot can signify travel, it is the less obvious meanings that shine through here.  Through strength of will, determination and controlling your own path, you can succeed and emerge triumphant.  Trust in yourself, maintain confidence and continue with the knowledge that you can achieve your goal.

Artists Interpretation: The meaning behind the card resonates with me as it is notoriously complex to define.  It represents struggle and hard work, but eventual triumph and getting what you desire through determined effort.  I have chosen to paint the Norse goddess Freya being pulled through the night sky by her two blue cats. She is renowned for her beauty and promiscuity; an untameable force of nature. It is said that she pursued whatever her heart desired, and I think that she is the perfect fit for the Chariot card in that respect. - Becca Turner

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: Justice represents balance, truth and, rather obviously, justice.  It follows that the card is an analytical one, more of logic than emotion, and suggests the balance and thought required to come to a fair decision.  The dual-edged sword represents impartiality, but pointed up suggests a positive outcome...dependent upon the other cards drawn.

Artists Interpretation: The main element I used that isn't in most traditional imagery of 'Justice' is the mask. It is said that 'Justice is blind', but I don’t think she is, and that particular figure of speech doesn’t always seem to apply in the Tarot. In researching the card, some sources contend that contrary to being blind, Justice’s eyes burn with the fire of truth. Perhaps SHE isn’t blind, but it is her gaze that is blinding; therefore, I decided to go with a mask, which serves to both draw attention to, and shield her eyes…- Mary Layton

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Hermit stands, staff in one hand, a lantern in the other, alone, against a barren landscape.  Solitude is the overwhelming feeling of this card.  It is not an unwelcome solitude, however.  There is a light, symbolising hope, and knowledge, represented by the staff.  This card suggests you have willingly isolated yourself, understanding that solitary study is what is needed for you to achieve a greater understanding of the truth held within you.

Atrists Interpretation: I wanted to take a different approach to the traditional Hermit design. First, I wanted to create a piece that was completely original, yet incorporated all of the signature elements of the card.  The Hermit has willingly isolated himself, and is driven by a guiding light (symbolizing hope), searching in an empty world for wisdom, knowledge, and truth (represented by the staff).  This card represents a welcomed seclusion, as a means to seek out and better understand the truth held within oneself.  The harsh, poisonous environment requires him to wear a gas mask... Another symbol of his dedication.  I decided to add a torn, scroll that surrounds the Hermit. The lack of text or imagery on the scroll was intentional... Hinting at the fact that the search for wisdom, knowledge & truth will never truly end... His future is not yet written... The search continues...- Seamo One

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Wheel of Fortune is a very symbolic card, ultimately illustrating that life is a series of cycles.  Never lose hope, for your hardships will pass, but at your high point, always remain humble and be aware that things can (and usually do) change.  Regardless of your current position, this card reminds you to learn from the experience.

Artists Interpretation: I interpret this card simply as you are born, you live, and you die. A cycle that is never-ending in the sense of reincarnation. This interpretation can be further put to working for success, getting success, and possibilities of declining in success or plateauing and getting bored of where one might be. Change, really, is the big statement I see in this card; what comes up must come down, once you hit rock bottom the only place to go is up, that sort of thing. - Tanya Ross

Tanya Ross aka TanDoll has been a professional artist for over a decade, having created her very own signature medium using an intricate method with oil pastels and colored pencils. Most of her artwork is drawn in a lowbrow/kitsch big-eye style that is colorful, spunky, and occasionally a little silly. Tanya was one of the founding members, and has been in all our decks. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Strength card, like The Chariot, symbolises control and strength, but not in the overt way that its title suggests.  This card usually depicts a lion, the inner strength that will be required to achieve your goal.  This strength is tempered from becoming too overpowering or aggressive, by the presence of a nurturing quality, a verdant landscape, a feminine aspect that is in control of the strength - a quiet, compassionate strength that will allow you to overcome.

Artists Interpretation: Strength requires patience, without it a form of chaos can grow. I chose to interpret my card as a man in the form of a mountainous landscape which the lion calmly lays upon. The imagery represents the man as patiently calming his wild nature from within. - Melanie Starr

Mountain girl and artist, Melanie Starr is a lover of photography and mother of a baby girl who is inspiring her to create a children’s clothing line. Having eight years professional experience in Graphic Design and Illustration, she revels in bringing concepts to life and designing to make an impact. Melanie helped with graphics and marketing for the first two decks, but her mommy duties have kept her unable to continue her journey with us.

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Hanged Man is often seen with fear, but should not be.  The Hanged Man is a voluntary suspension, often giving you the perspective to look at things in a different light.  It calls on you to pause for reflection, and make the sacrifices necessary to move forward.

Artists Interpretation: I decided to take a totally unusual twist on my card by not including any type of human figure in it. I took inspiration from the spider, hanging upside down on its delicate web, suspended. The spider’s legs respectively imitate that of the original Hanged Man card, in addition to the inclusion of red on the body (representing passion) and the bright yellow background representing spirituality, i feel that this piece is a completely contemporary take on the original card; similarities between spiders and ourselves can always be seen! – Hannah Coote

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: Possibly the card with the worst reputation, Death represents endings and beginnings.  There is both darkness and light within this card.  The figure of Death, upon or with his horse, is often illustrated in skeletal form - the form that remains after Death, after the end, signifying that for every ending there is a new beginning.  This card advises that to continue on your journey, there are elements of your past from which you must walk away.  

Artists Interpretation: Death...  Throughout my life, there are experiences that have let me walk my path in darkness. I am fortunate that I am no longer committed to that path and no longer belong to the darkness, but, having been a part of that it, I can never fully belong to the light. Death is another being that belongs in the in-between of light and dark. To some, Death is the enemy, to be held at bay for as long as possible. To others, Death is mercy and kind friend.  My style is finding beauty in darkness or nightmares, and I am honored to draw the Death card. - Shelby Nichols

Shelby Nichols believes there can be beauty in all dark things, even nightmares and often explores this with her art. A self-taught artist, who works primarily in graphite, her art seeks to tell a story, or hint at character, and she finds inspiration in art that makes the viewer wonder what would happen next or where the subjects had come from. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: Temperance is the universal diplomat.  This card represents the balance and patience required to seem calm and serene while hectic life goes on around you.  Ultimately, this card appears to tell you that it understands your goals, and approves of the time you're taking to ensure that you're working everything out.

Artists Interpretation: I wanted to include some of the traditional symbols of the Temperance card, but change them up a little.  For my card I still chose to draw an angel, possibly Gabriel.  I have chosen to represent the two forces that need to be balanced as swans as swans are an animal that live both on the land and water.  One of my swans is painted black and stands in the water, the other is white and stands upon the earth.  The black swan represents the material world and yet stands upon the water of spirit.  The white swan represents the spirit world, and yet stands upon the material.  So in a sense I wanted to continually mix up these two symbols showing their need for balance or temperance, just as the water has to be continually balanced in the traditional card. - Tammy Mae Moon

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Devil is a powerful card often viewed negatively.  It typically shows The Devil as an over powering creature, with all other figures in bondage before him.  But this card, like life, is not to be viewed superficially.  The bondage is often self-imposed - The Devil represents those fears, impulses and addictions which keep us prisoner.  But we have the power to break free, if we take control of the situation, rather than letting the situation control us.  The Devil is also a card full of passion, a passion which can ultimately turn into obsession.

Artists Interpretation: It's a feeling of being comfortable, yet challenged to live up to the weight the card holds. I want to portray every emotion involved.  I want the reader to lose themselves for a moment in the feeling of the card. - Travis Anthony Soumis

Travis Anthony Soumis’ art is dark and eerie and things of your nightmare. He works with a multitude of media from traditional to digital, often combining the two to produce a work of art with many many layers.

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Tower often appears to us when we have been thrown a curve ball, bringing chaos down upon us.  This card illustrates the mind blowing way in which life will show you how little control you have at times.  The Tower represents the walls and structures that we have built in our lives, and casts doubt upon their safety. Their foundations are not sound. But with this destruction comes the chance to rebuild, to create stronger foundations, and build our lives back up again.

Artists Interpretation: There is a fool in despair at the foot of a tower. You can't easily tell he's a fool because he's a warted up 4-armed plasma monster from another dimension (as is my trademark) but he is silly-looking and waving his arms in despair. Meanwhile, the tower is still being struck down, only this time by a dragon. The changes, though exciting to me, are pretty much cosmetic in that regard. However, there is a strong undercurrent (or so I would call it) of death and rebirth in my work, so the fool is sacrificing himself; his bright green life energy flows to the tower, up through it as it is being destroyed, and then out of the eye of the head of the tower (accompanied by a few doves to make it a tad more obvious). - Luca Federici Carey

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: When we're lost, we look up at the stars for hope and guidance on our journey, and this card delivers that hope.  The Star tells us to have faith, that we have all the power in the universe and can achieve what we set out to do as long as we keep that faith, and belief in ourselves.  It is a powerful, positive omen and should be a welcome sight in any reading.

Artists Interpretation: The Star for me was always about hope and strength helping me navigate my artistic path in the big bad city. Inspiration for my interpretation of the star comes from the old me. I was a bold, starry eyed young thing with NYC as my playground and not a care in the world. My illustration shows the Manhattan skyline as it looked from my apartment in Williamsburg Brooklyn...just across the East River. She has one foot in the water and one high heeled boot on the ground. She is full of hope and loves to explore...fearless...reckless...searching for balance between the spiritual and material worlds...bumbling a bit in both. - Shana Cinquegrana

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Moon is all about illusions, fear, anxiety and the subconscious.  The prevailing theme of the card is that the light of the Moon casts shadows that aren't always true, similar to a dream.  When drawn in conjunction to a question, there's more here than meets the eye. Act, but do so cautiously, when you can see clearer.

Artists Interpretation: I know my card is about intuition, dreams and the unconscious, I do believe that we really should listen to ourselves more, whether it’s a feeling or a dream. - Monika Ptok-Byard

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Sun is full of warmth and life, the image drawing you right into the centre of this card.  It is a complex card, there is a lot going on around this innocent babe, who is the centre of attention, being carried, illustrating the easing of any trials.  Sunflowers make this card even brighter, as the Sun, casts warmth and joy around it, for others to appreciate and follow.  This card is full of encouragement, radiance and positive energy, enjoy!  

Artists Interpretation: The most emotional thing that I’ve ever done, and it’s called “Here comes the Son”, and although I never knew the sex of my baby, I very much thought that it was a boy and I still dream of him and hope that I see him one day, and so maybe you can get the meaning of my card.  Which is that even in the darkest of times there’s always light, and sometimes in the shadow of the sun, there’s sadness, but all you need to do is to step into the light, and it’s always there, that light, you just have to find it, and I found it. – Kayti Welsh

Kayti is a veteran of the art community, and the founder and director of the 78 Tarot Project. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: Judgement is a positive card, indicative that your previous actions have brought you so far, but that thought, and time to reflect, are required to move forward.  Consideration of your past experiences will help you move onto another consequential phase of your life.  An end and a beginning - with you as the catalyst.

Artists Interpretation: The card is a fairly serious one, and I chose to paint one of my kimono kitties to add a touch of levity. My angel is dressed as a geisha, a master of her arts and a role model for others. The character for heaven is found on her sleeve (angel in Japanese is tenshi, with the character for ten meaning "heaven"). Insurmountable waves are painted on the screen in the background, and her hair ornament features the character for mountain. Three naughty kittens are being called to task here, and even though they sport three different demeanors - naughty, resigned and attentive - they will all be treated the same. – Brenda June

Brenda specializes mostly in fantasy art, specifically cats in Japanese settings, and fairy cats (aka catterflies). Her work is whimsical and pretty, and above all uplifting. Her main objective is to put a smile on your face! She works almost exclusively in acrylic on watercolor paper.

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The World is a card of fulfilment, a journey that you have completed successfully.  Often depicted showing the main character(s) within a wreath, there is the suggestion of having come full circle.  This may still be a phase of your life, but there is an achievement here to be celebrated.  You have weathered the hardships to come out of this stronger, and can now appreciate your accomplishments.

Artists Interpretation: At the moment the world is my oyster and i feel it epitomizes the boundless connections i feel, sense, see, hear, touch and miss…it also represents great joy and hope for me at the moment at the endless possibilities, worlds within worlds,  that encompasses all the sorrow, hurt, suffering that the world endures. My card, The World, was one of many on offer, but I felt largely drawn to it as in the past the world has represented too big a challenge for me, and I have largely been a reserved, shy and timid person...now I feel I am woman, hear me roar. – So Ma

Australian artist So Ma works from her studio using live models and still life to develop very layered, rich canvases. She loves working on Tarot due to the imagery she incorporates in such thorough detail. She has been with us since our very first deck.

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: Pentacles (also referred to as coins) are, unsurprisingly, representative of abundance and prosperity, and the Ace of Pentacles is no exception.  But while material gain is definitely a feature of this card, it can also refer to more emotional or practical success, nurturing and contentment.  It suggests a new start, a revitalisation of your financial affairs, a new business opportunity, or the successful realisation of a long desired goal.

Artists Interpretation: Originally I chose not to include a hand in it, the Pentacle being held by leaves and branches, symbolizes the treasure hidden inside nature.  But it felt disconnected without the hand - I thought a peaceful almost meditating, but still possessive woman just might bring this cards true meaning alive.  I was thinking Mother Earth a bit when creating the leaf sort of hair and the birds are bringing freedom into the picture.  I know it is mainly about material abundance (maybe) but I wanted to also bring out other kind of wealth - peace, spiritualism, freedom, nature. – Edit Farkas

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Two of Pentacles is about balance, but it's not as simple as the first glance would suggest.  The water depicted in this card represents the consciousness and emotions, so this card is not just about juggling finances, but about the balance of spirit you need while dealing with this.  Maybe you need to achieve a better balance between your work and home life, or be more flexible to succeed.

Artists Interpretation: Well the meaning behind the card is basically just juggling two things and most of the original cards have a person standing before waves. To me, the ocean has always represented a sort of destruction but also peace. So even if life keeps throwing obstacles at you, you still have to keep going through the storm. - Robin McQuay

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: "You're doing well, now keep going" is the message brought to you by the Three of Pentacles.  This could be a new job, project, or more likely, a creative collaboration between you and others - this card features more than one person, emphasising the advantages of teamwork and learning from others, often master to apprentice.  When this card appears to you it is telling you that if you keep working hard at it, you will succeed.

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Four of Pentacles is a warning.  It tells you that you're succeeding in your goals, and that your focus is leading you to a stable material position.  But it warns of becoming too used to wealth and travelling a path that will lead you to miserly greed and ultimately, unhappiness.  Teaching you to brush away your possible fears of loss and be freer with your emotions and material possessions, rather than end up tethered by them.

Artists Interpretation: The 4 of pentacles. Basically the concept is of greed (and who collects wealth more than dragons, really.), and the idea that if you clutch too tightly to your wealth that you will end up tangled in it, and it will hold you back from the things you truly love. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Five of Pentacles illustrates a time of hardship, and feelings of hopelessness, although not always purely financial.  This card shows a dark, snowy scene, with a shrouded character, oblivious to helpful figures or hopeful symbols.  This card is trying to illustrate that there is hope and help to be found, if only you can look up from your despair to find it - a light beside you, guiding you out of the darkness of despair, a bridge over troubled waters...times are hard but look for hope.

Artists Interpretation: For me, this card represents someone who is going through a hardship, and they are blinded by it, completely unable to see any possible way around it.  The person is trapped by fear and despair, unwilling to move forward or ask for help.  The imagery that I used, the lamppost and the bridge (which symbolize hope and assistance), were personal choices that I connected with.  The lamppost guides travellers along the path, and the bridge assists them safely across the deep river.   The pentacles are represented as flowers blooming around the lamp's base, a hopeful sign of spring, bringing an end to the tormenting winter storms.  Unfortunately, she is focusing inward on her troubles, oblivious to the fact she is straying from the safe path, until she becomes trapped, attempting to cross the dark, frigid waters on slippery river rocks... will she make it, or turn back? – Tara Fly

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Six of Pentacles shows wealth, but in a measured, balanced way.  This is a card as representative of generosity as of gain.  Your work has been, or is being rewarded with a level of prosperity which allows you to be generous with your money, time, and spirit, after a time of hardship.  If you are the intended recipient of this generosity; do not be too proud to accept, for with help now, you will work to a position where you can pay it forward later.

Artists Interpretation: I really wanted to have the duality - light and dark, the complimentary colors to represent the two sides of the coins - rich and poor, and how fast it can change.  The idea is to make one half black and the other white. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Seven of Pentacles is about perseverance and reward, but also about reflection.  This card shows toil and prosperity, with one main figure taking a moment to survey the benefits of their hard work, in the form of a harvest.  It's a short break, as there is still work to be done, but the card reminds you that momentary reflection is useful to make sure you're going in the right direction to produce the best long term results.

Artists Interpretation: My card is the 8 of pentacles which is basically about hard work, learning something new and perfecting said task. Success through hard work and determination with little distraction. I feel like this is very fitting for my career especially right now. Being an artist I feel like my life is this card. I have also opened a new art gallery recently and I am doing this completely on my own which is a new experience and I am having to learn a lot and do a ton of hard work. Artists Interpretation: The meaning for this card is very appropriate to my situation. I have worked very hard to get where I am today. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: This Page, like all Pages in Tarot, signifies the energies of new beginnings, a new path to be trod.  He is a steady Page, dependable, with both feet firmly on the floor, his gaze wholly on the Pentacle in his hands.  He does not represent a task accomplished, a reward gained, but the steadfast motivation required to work hard and achieve your goal.  He is guiding you, teaching you, to keep your eye firmly on your goal, and not to be distracted by impractical ideas which will cause you to fail.

Artists Interpretation: The Page of Pentacles stands for new beginnings and inspiration which is the reason I pictured him just having entered a gateway. It is also a card of dreams, hence the closed eyes, but dreaming not in terms of escaping but in terms of working on turning your dreams and desires into reality and facts. Being focused and hardworking are characteristics often assigned to this card – to keep ones feet firmly planted on the ground and to not get carried away by unrealistic ideas or concepts. This I have been trying to convey by the posture of my depiction of the page. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Knight of Pentacles is a stationary figure, solid and contemplative of the Pentacle in his hand.  He is reliable and hardworking, possibly even a little stolid, here to tell you that if you have been working steadily and methodically, you are bound to succeed.  In a reading, this card often appears to show that you need to take a responsible, solid approach to a task, and be a reliable provider.

Artists Interpretation: I chose the imagery for the card because it goes to show, that no matter how much hard you work for something, there is more work to be done, but in a progressive way.  The graphite was used because it is a working person’s tool.  There is also Alchemic, Masonic, Teutonic, symbolism hidden in it - the references have direct meaning to the card. -  Mark Hosea Jr.

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Queen of Pentacles is the archetypal "Earth Mother", a maternal, patient, dependable, reliable provider.  She is shown sitting alone in an opulent setting, contemplating the Pentacle before her.  She has worked hard, and prospered, allowing her to be generous now with her time and spirit.  When she appears in a reading, she is suggesting she knows your heart is similar to hers - you wish to be an independent, nurturing soul.  She advises you to perfect a balance within yourself and your dealings, bring more compassion to your actions and interactions.

Artists Interpretation: The Queen of Pentacles comfortably sits atop her hill of Success, flanked by Rams that symbolize hard work and perseverance. Her nakedness represents her security in her own skin and abilities as a person, while her flowing hair is bounty and luxury. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The King of Pentacles is a powerful, opulent character, surrounded by trappings of abundance.  His wealth is a product of steady, patient hard work, from which he has not wavered, and this has seen him through to success.  He is a provider, of both material and less tangible wealth.  He is a fatherly benefactor willing to bestow his wisdom as well as gift his chattels - but in a careful, measured way.  This is not a man prone to reckless acts, or spending.  He shows you a life you can achieve with hard work, and suggests that once you have achieved your goals, that you enjoy them with generosity of spirit and time.

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Ace of Swords is a powerful card for the mind - this symbolises a moment of inspiration, truth and sudden clarity - the way forward is clear to you now, and you will travel it.  The dual-edged sword represents impartiality of mind, and the absence of a more florid landscape suggests few distractions…intellect more than emotion is required here.  The sword is depicted pointing up, suggesting a positive outcome, and this is mirrored by a wreath within the image.

Artists Interpretation: The card I painted was the Ace of Swords, which is the suit that is also represented by Air. I have a small obsession with the elements and personally resonate most with Air, which is intellect, mind, thought, and communication.  The Ace of Swords is all that at its purest. It is a point of truth and inspiration, the time to make a move. I like the power it represents in life, how we need to be aware and listening so we can make decisions and go ahead with them.  I represented it with some of the traditional symbols (sword in a hand, clouds, crown, wreath and mountains) but I included the woman holding the sword, eyes closed in concentration and I have added some more air elements represented with sprites/birds/butterflies etc. - Deanna Bach

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Two of Swords shows two swords in perfect balance, with a figure in stationary contemplation.  The swords again represent intellect; the balance (sometimes the swords are even shown crossed) shows a stale-mate.  That state of being in two minds, undecided, with a hard decision to make - one that is not being made.  The figure is unmoving, unrestrained, but still...occasionally depicted with a blind-fold, troublesome but not impossible to remove.   This card suggests a stale-mate that may require a new approach.  Find out all the information and make the decision.

Artists Interpretation: The 2 of swords is all about balance. Mainly balance in a relationship with 2 people. The sword suit is Air and concerns issues of communication, logic and thought. And the swords can signify internal struggles. Who couldn't relate to this card?  It’s supposed to represent someone who has finally found balance within themselves and he's laying his swords down for good.   The card mainly represents balance in a relationship with another person but I'm illustrating it as the other person in him. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Three of Swords is all about sorrow and heartbreak.  The three swords are usually depicted piercing a heart against a grey and stormy backdrop.  It is a warning card, showing upheaval and loss, which may be clouding your judgement.  But it is not all doom and gloom - the storm will pass and the sorrow will end, with you being a stronger, wiser person.

Artists Interpretation: The Three of Swords is a sorrowful card that is typically disconnected from any physical form. However, the emotions the cards represent to me are some of the most deeply harrowing and horrifically grounding feelings I have experienced. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Four of Swords shows a Knight at rest (sometimes even in a grave) following a battle.  When this card appears, it suggests that you need time to recuperate and rest, recharge your mental batteries, so to speak, in order to progress.  When it appears in a current crisis, it is a suggestion to take a step back and reflect, so that you can go back into battle.

Artists Interpretation: As for my interpretations of the IV of Swords card, I went for the traditional imagery of a knight lying upon a pallet or tomb in a restful or meditative state with three swords above him and the fourth beside him. I incorporated some symbolism associated with the swords suit into the image as well. The swords suit is often associated with the air element. I worked this into the floor tiles.  I knew that this card could be interpreted however I wanted, but as soon as I saw that it is traditionally depicted with a medieval knight, usually faceless wearing a helmet or in profile, I wanted to do a more detailed portrait of him with his face fully visible. Faces and their expressions are my favorite things to paint. I wanted to do a version where the knight's face is the main focus. - Rebecca Sinz

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Five of Swords warns against deceit and selfishness.  The skies are chaotic; there is conflict in this card, but of a bloodless type.  Possibly your recent actions have turned others against you, or you need to decide whether the unpopular choice facing you is truly necessary.  Either way, you need to watch your back, for while the battle seems to have been fought, trouble still lingers.

Artists Interpretation: I think the 5 of Swords and I were just simply meant to be relationship.  The 5 of Swords card represents a bitter sweet victory, acting selfishly, unjustly, insensitive, battle (of both conquest and defeat), of infamy and dishonor. This card often means winning the battle but losing the war. It signifies an air element seen as intellect, logic and reasoning. After studying the card's meaning I instantly felt that warrior angels were the best way to represent the vast meaning of it. I wanted to show the angels conveying a proud and yet soulless demeanor. Their pride blinds them from the reality of what has really happened in their battle. - Deanna Davoli

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: A melancholy, shrouded figure travels in a boat over tempestuous waters to calm ones.  The boat is pierced by six swords, but the figure is unharmed.  In the Six of Swords, the allegory is clear.  The troubled times are coming to an end, you are travelling to a happier, calmer time.  You have been wounded, but not seriously, and will heal.

Artists Interpretation: My card, the Six of Swords is personal and meaningful to me. I feel a very strong connection to it. It about a journey from the bottom up; moving from ruins to new beginnings.  I chose my card because it was so meaningful to me and I felt that I could portray the meaning and symbolism well Also I've never drawn a boat before, which is central to the card's image, and I wanted to try! - Brynn Elizabeth

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Seven of Swords shows a thief stealing away with the swords, and dependent upon the other cards in the reading, you are either the thief or the wronged party.  In either case, this card is a warning.  If you must, be diplomatic with the truth with benign reasons, but do not deceive for deception's sake.  This card could also be telling you to watch for bad luck, being deceived, or let down by another.

Artists Interpretation: I feel this card is about the lone wolf attitude; a self-imposed isolation and an unwillingness to work with others. To purposely go rogue is a heavy decision, and I chose to depict this with a wolf of stone, which represents the weight of the thief's betrayal. It shows ego, independence, wilfulness and possibly even a little self-sabotage, because wolves are far more vulnerable alone. It requires quite a bit of cunning, cleverness, and a detachment from pack mentality for a wolf to survive alone. Use your wits to get out of a tight spot or find a new way to approach the problem, because brute force will not garner the desired outcome. – Jenga

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Eight of Swords shows a blindfolded figure, restrained and alone.  Look closer and you will see that the restrictions are self-imposed; the figure cannot see that there is a way ahead, through the constraints.  When this card appears in a reading, it is a sign that you're bogged down in a mire of your own making.  You need to remove the metaphorical blind-fold.  Step back from the problem, take a clear look at the situation and the solution will present itself.

Artists Interpretation: Although I would associate myself with atheism, I have always enjoyed Catholic religious imagery. I felt drawn to the Mary of the Seven Sorrows. I decided this was what I would base my drawing upon. Mary is blindfolded, unable to see. She is also muted by her own doing, silenced by her own doing--I have the threads coming from an almost voodoo shaped ball of string and the needle is in her own hand. She has the eight swords in her exposed heart. She is more than capable of changing her own situation but she chooses to remain bound.  - Jodi Horne

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: "Anguish" is the theme of this card.  The Nine of Swords is a card of anxiety, despair, and nightmare.  But not of physical injury - the swords are not touching or interacting with a figure here.  The darkness of this card is not necessarily of your making, but is more about your fears and worries about a situation than the situation itself.  In illustrations of this card, the figure is restless, but immobile.  This card advises you not to let your fears paralyse you, but to master them.

Artists Interpretation: The card expresses anxiety, worry and a feeling of having the weight of the world resting on your shoulders. Hence the women woken with worry and fear. I wanted to depict these feelings but in my own unique way, this is a card that initially comes across bad, but on further investigation it is also a card that advises one to take time away from those worries, to work through your fears and perhaps come out clearer in the end.  I hope I have helped depict this very complex card. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Ten of Swords is all about you at your lowest ebb.  You are down, beaten, attacked and even potentially betrayed.  Sometimes this card can act as a warning, but usually just that this time is coming, and you need to roll with it.  There is hope within this card, if you can see it - a light shining, subtle, but there, as a reminder that at your lowest point, there is hope.  You can only rise.  

Artists Interpretation: The ten of swords can be the most depressing card in the deck. It basically means hopelessness, or hitting rock bottom. I never quite saw it that way. To me it always felt more like Unseen Hope (also the title of my artwork for the card). When you are at rock bottom, the only direction you can go is up, even if you can’t see it while you are there. The Dragon in my piece represents the self. He is at the bottom of the cave, not dead, but not happy either. He bears the open wounds of traumas that are still too fresh. Slowly he lifts one wing to show you how battered and cut he is from life, but in lifting his wing he has blocked out the light shining in the cave that would show him the way out. Unable to now see the hope that can make him free. – Carla Morrow

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Knight of Swords is an energetic figure, full of life (and haste).  This card is about getting things done.  The momentum can mean travel, or a necessary speedy action, but this card cannot be stopped.  Occasionally this card should be eyed with caution (depending on the other cards in the reading); maybe things are moving too fast and becoming a little chaotic...

Artiists Interpretation: The Knight of Swords is typically associated with messengers and therefore birds. I had seen a Peregrine Falcon perched on a lamppost outside my apartment in Brooklyn as well as while I was playing ultimate frisbee in Prospect Park, and decided that was the bird I needed to also include. I sketched a ton of different layouts before settling on this one. The composition was inspired by Hieronymus Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights" and Gerhard Richter's landscape paintings - Eli Neugeboren

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: Queen of Swords shows a single figure, but there is no isolation here. This Queen is a composed, strong, sometimes fierce, always independent woman.  There is a clarity to this card - no emotion to muddy the waters, this is an intellectual woman unwilling to tolerate nonsense.  In a reading, this Queen is telling you to weigh up your decision carefully, do not allow emotion to sway you one way or the other, but rely on cold, hard logic and intellectual thought.

Artists Interpretation: I perceive the ‘Queen of Swords’ to be an interplay between power and wisdom. The card indicates a woman who is analytical, smart and yet humble and distant. You could say she is a role model for me!  Among the cards available at the time, I intuitively chose the ‘Queen of Swords’. The thought of creating a card based on a woman who is strong, independent and intelligent appealed to me because I value those personality traits in people – Faye Osman

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The King of Swords is a powerful, fatherly figure of authority.  His power does not come from his money, but from the sword resting in his hands.  There is no active battle here, but a wealth of experience and knowledge instead.  The sword he carries suggests balance and justice, and his expressions are slightly stern, detached - this is not necessarily an approachable figure, but certainly a respected one.  He is suggesting you make an informed, impartial choice, once you have weighed all the facts.

Artists Interpretation: The King of Swords calls to my mind the European epic poems, that I loved so much when I was in High School!  Mine is actually a monarch from an old narrative poetry, full of many fantastical and magical elements, heroic deeds and events, incredible adventures and unforgettable characters. Following the symbolic interpretation of this card, I also like encouraging high standards, working against dishonesty, and using thought creatively!  It was one of the few cards available and I intuitively chose it, though I like that The King of Swords is a symbol of intellectual power and authority, a man of the highest ethical standards. - Natalia Pierandrei

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Ace of Wands, like other Aces is about an energetic new beginning…but this card is a little different.  This card is about creating your own vision and making it reality.  Unleashing your creative energy and letting it take you further.  A forceful card, a fire card, this card is not advising further delays for research and thought, but action, now.

Artists Interpretation: My card is the Ace of Wands, so I decided to go for it! I was inspired to use fiery colors and create an image that invokes feelings of motivation, power and strength. I also wanted to make the card futuristic. By taking a chance and deciding to do something, we are changing and affecting our future. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Two of Wands shows a figure on a winding path with a long way to go, an expansive scene before them.  You have acted on the energy of the Ace and you are on your creative journey.  The world is ahead of you, and the winding path will have its ups and downs, but this is a positive card.  Your creativity, with the focus leant to it by a second wand (potentially a back-up plan, or learning from a mentor) will help you to succeed.

Artists Interpretation: When I saw the card for 2 of wands not yet taken I had a feeling to pick that one to draw. I wasn't familiar with the meaning of the card when I chose it, however after reading about it I really felt it was the perfect card for me.  Right away I imagined my artwork being a woman choosing between 2 paths in life. - Zindy S. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Three of Wands is a card tied to others - showing a continuation of the story of the Wands, possibly more than any other card in a tarot deck.  In a reading, if this card pops up, it is telling you that you're making progress.  Your first steps have been a success, now you must build on them further to take advantage of every opportunity you can...

Atists Interpretation: I strive for originality in my work, and the traditional Three of Wands shows a man with his back turned. My characters are usually shown face-forward and this creates a strong connection with the viewers. I also chose a young female character instead of an old man because I felt she reflected the meaning of the card more. (Depending on what other cards accompany Three of Wands, and if it's in the past, present or future position can affect the meaning, but it can symbolize a new beginning and young people are closer to many firsts in life.) - Marlana Adele Vassar

Artists Interpretation: I chose the Four of Wands because it is a happy card and is connected to cats which are my concentration as an artist. I wanted to do something unique for this card, tying in my love of cats and the symbols this card is associated with like beautiful colors, butterflies and roses. - Carrie Hawks

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Five of Wands is a chaotic card, and seems to show a conflict.  But the sky is clear; these are not swords the figures are holding, but wands/staves.  Two of the wands are crossed, but the others point out in all directions, blocking the other wands.  This is a card of bloodless, petty conflict, suggesting squabbles, competition, obstacles and tensions, all of which can be resolved, or ignored.  Another reading of this card is that the figures are engaged in a dance - that fun is needed here.

Artists Interpretation: I chose to do an Alice in Wonderland theme "the great caucus race" scene actually because it just seemed to fit the five of wands. Slightly odd but not necessarily a battle.  I also choose it because I love the story so much and I am working on a series of Alice paintings right now. – Elisa Tudor

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Six of Wands is a harbinger of good news.  Recognition for your hard work, success in a task, sometimes a promotion at work.  This is a card that should boost your confidence and get you over that lull where you wonder if your hard work will ever pay off.  You have worked hard, moved past all distractions, and played to your strengths - you should be proud of yourself.

Artists Interpretation: The Six of Wands is such positive encouragement to believe in who you are and your accomplishments. It can indicate that despite the challenges you are facing, you will overcome them and come out on top. This card also points toward literal or metaphorical movement; things are changing, in a positive way. I wanted my representation to be a really joyful, fun image.  The night I was assigned my card the image I would use came to me so fast that I knew it had to be right. I wanted to use my well-known big eye cat but also wanted to incorporate some of the new little characters I have been creating. My goal was that I really wanted them all to give the viewer a feeling that they are representing victory, confidence within yourself and strength to continue your efforts.  - Joanna Nelson

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Seven of Wands may appear when you're feeling challenged or defensive.  Usually this card shows a defender, holding one wand, fending off another six - there is constant competition for the position you hold.  The card will be drawn in a reading to show you that regardless of what obstacles and challenges you face, you will win out.  Your fierce personality will show through to overcome them all.

Artists Interpretation: A woman standing in a defensive position. It indicates challenges, struggles but still maintain confidence, standing to your ground not being too defensive but fight for what is really right.  So, although you are experiencing a number of setbacks you need to fight for what you believe in.  Confront others who may oppose or threaten you.  You can overcome this challenge or obstacle by having strong self-confidence, self-belief and continuous self-improvement, courage, strength and determination.  There will always be challengers and opposition and you cannot keep everyone happy all of the time.  The colored background indicates good intentions and continuous success.  - Alvarez Ma Rlita

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Eight of Wands is all about movement and action, often swift in nature.  This card signifies that you have overcome all obstacles in your way, and are now moving quickly towards success.  The way is clear, the world is your oyster, and all your creative endeavours are falling into place.  Take advantage.  This card can also symbolise travel, usually by air.

Artists Interpretation: It is the Lord of Swiftness, ruling the air, where nothing is wasted. The eight of wands represents speedy movement ahead. All the plans have been made and the foundations have been laid, all you need to do is let go and let things fall into place because there is no time to waste. It is a fire element that demands the necessity for change and brings forth swiftly unfolding events. The figure is a woman, an artist, an element of creation unto herself with her wands of power in the guise of paint brushes and palette knives. I wanted to show all of the passion and energy and excitement I feel at working with my talents. I create whole worlds with my imagination and paintbrush, and that creative explosion sets off others until I am quite literally on fire. When a project is finished I have to hurry and start something new or else I risk being pulled into the black hole of indecision that opens the doors to self-doubt and then it can spiral down to stagnation. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Nine of Wands is a card that has done battle, is weary and in need of a rest.  No such luck.  But it's worth it.  No matter how tired you are of the struggle, no matter how tired you are of the daily battle, success is around the corner, if you can just muster up the energy for the final bout.

Artists Interpretation: "Nine of Wands is all about taking a step back, a deep breath and defending yourself. In my mind that means looking at all the emotional plates you are juggling and choosing which one to put back in the cupboard for a while. So my next step is to think about all of the characters and stories which inspire me with these elements and see what comes of it. It’s about emotional self-defence, learning when you need to let your guard down and stop fighting the world. – Kim Hagen

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Ten of Wands often appears when you are carrying a heavy load, or at least feel that way.  Possibly one that started as a perfect idea, or a personal dream, and now seems to be getting heavier and heavier.  But the card is not all doom and gloom - it's a Ten, and in Tarot, they mean an ending, so look for the light at the end of the tunnel, take time for a fresh perspective and see a different way to hit your task head on...

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Queen of Wands shows an attractive strong, feminine figure, often with sunflowers and a black cat.  The sunflowers show the nurturing warmth of this woman, the black cat illustrates her acceptance of intuition and otherworldliness.  She is an energetic, maternal figure, self-assured, open-minded and full of vitality.  This queen is a leader, advising you to be as proactive and bold as she is.

Artists Interpretation: I chose to portray the Queen of Wands as both fierce and feminine. Her pink and black gown with gold details represents her regal position in the Suit of Wands, as well as her femininity. She has a 'black house panther' at her feet, which represents all of the mysteries in our infinite universe. She sits upon an obsidian throne, forged from lava, which connects her with her element of fire. - Sasha Fitzgerald

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The King of Wands is a primal, powerful figure.  The symbolism around him is of strength (a lion fur cloak) and fire (a salamander tattoo and a crown of fire).  He is a leader - not content to follow a creative path in a world of someone else's making - he will forge his own creative destiny.  When this card appears to you, he is advising you to take charge of your own life.  Lead rather than follow, take advantage of the opportunity.  But there is a warning in this card too - this King can at times be overly aggressive in his actions.

Artists Interpretation: I have a close connection with the King of Wands, and feel that I know him very well. The court cards represent personalities to me, so I concentrated on augmenting that aspect in my card through my personal lens. This King is a visionary, cultivator, problem solver and conqueror. He is the type of person to see a light at the end of the tunnel, or come up with a plan that might seem far-fetched to everyone else around him – only to attract success. He is driven, but also stubborn. Although he cherishes and respects those around him – the thirst for conquest can get the best of him. As much as the King of Wands is a visionary, he is susceptible to tunnel vision. A draw of this King may be advising you to mull over your ideas and options before you get too invested in the first one. Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Ace in any suit represents beginnings, and the Cups are a suit of feelings - also shown by the 5 streams of water pouring from this cup - the 5 senses.  The Ace of Cups appearing in a reading advises of a new emotional journey - a positive, nurturing love which will bring you happiness and peace.  Dependent upon the other cards within a reading, this card can also suggest fertility or pregnancy.

Artists Meaning: Because this is a positive card, I wanted to use a lot of organic lines, such as in her hair etc. to show the constant movement as in water or a continuing journey.  I also added water lilies mostly because I have a hard time painting water and not including them ;) - Lindsay Cheesewright

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: Two of Cups shows the merging of two into one, a union for celebration.  This card is a positive one, full of hope, harmony and energy.  On the surface, often it appears to be the answer to a romantic question, but it is not always about love. You may have reached the next level in your romantic relationship, but this card could also be giving you a positive vibe about a work collaboration or friendship.  Maybe you've recently resolved a separation or disagreement.

Artists Interpretation: I choose my card because of its meaning, the 2 of cups represents a positive message for new partnerships, and suggests that with honour, respect and balance, new relationships shall be rewarding. It may also indicate you are joining forces with another party in order to facilitate healing. - Helena Reis

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Three of Cups is a dance, almost bacchanalian in feeling.  Surrounded by fruit and other signs of abundance, 3 girls dance, celebrating joyfully and energetically, cups in hand.  In a reading, the Three of Cups is as simple as that - this card is about celebration, of friendship, of victory, and of life.

Artists Interpretation: It is about three girls dancing and celebrating success together! Who could imagine anything more inspiring!???  I like drawing girls, success, happiness and joy... this is always very inspiring to me…and besides I like to have that card opened to me, so if I do it well, it will open, I guess. :) - Svetlana Ava

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Four of Cups often depicts, as you would expect, four cups and a figure.  But while you see the four cups, the figure seems oblivious to them, lost in contemplation.  This card illustrates how important it is to focus, and the value of ignoring external distractions, especially if you are unhappy with how things are, while warning of being oblivious to what is right there in front of you.

Artists Interpretation: I have used mushroom caps to represent the cups in my card, it fits with my "folk style" I think, the art work title for my card is "Spilt Milk" inspired by the saying "There is no use crying over spilt milk" which I think fits with the meanings of this card well. I have used 2 Magpies to represent Joy (from the old rhyme) to represent the happiness being overlooked. I'm also interested in old rhymes & sayings, they come up often in my artwork. - Anita Inverarity

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Five of Cups represents loss, disappointment and grief.  You have been hurt and let down, possibly even lost a loved one and are bogged down by these emotions.  But not all is lost, not all the cups have been knocked over and not all has spilled away.  This is a matter of perception.  There is loss, and disappointment, but is the glass half empty?  Or half full?  What you choose to believe, how you choose to react, will have a great impact on your life and happiness...

Artists Interpretation: I feel it's a strong card even if it is a bit negative, I can see positives in it and I'm excited to try and balance both the positive and negative of the card and how I will interpret it through my artwork. 5 of cups is about loss, bereavement, challenge, to move on from past, not to hold on n to move in new direction. The bridge going upwards is new direction and the two cups one standing upright and one flying in air are positive ones and the three fallen and smashed one are the negatives and the dog is the loyal friend that sticks by you when you're heartbroken and the water underneath is the water under the bridge as in to move on and the forest atmosphere is kind of where you feel alone but in a mystical place at the same time.  I'd hoped the water would be inviting enough for her to jump into and be free - the colours I made the water were to reflect the positive side. - Chelle Destefano

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: A colourful couple of children sharing companionship within a flower garden is the traditional image for the Six of Cups.  This card represents happier memories of times gone by, and dependent upon the other cards in the reading, can suggest that one of these memories is about to make a reappearance within your life.  Everything about this card is happy and especially after the sadness and loss referenced within the Five, it suggests that you need to make sure you remember the good times in order to get past the bad.

Artists Interpretation: Fresh and playful is what I was trying to capture with the children, her with the floppy hat and black and white stripe leggings, him with a mop of blonde hair and a chalice of flowers to thrill her. This is the sweetest card that means so much to me as I look back to and reminisce my own past, happier times and realize that even during my fight with cancer there is the possibility of many good days ahead. I did the water color background to represent the garden in a new light taking actual greens and leaves and zooming in on the detail. It's much like looking back on your past happiness and enjoyment within a brand new perspective. Water conveys feelings and emotions and I have that overflowing from the randomly stacked cups and the blue water colored background again representing part of the garden. - Suzie Vaudt

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The imagery of the Seven of Cups is relatively simple - seven cups levitate before you within the clouds.  Each appears to hold a different temptation - an overwhelming choice is before you, but the clouds represent your perception or imagination.  These choices may not be as they seem - while fantasy and dreams are wonderful in their place, this is a situation where you need to look carefully at all options, and make an informed choice.

Artists Interpretation: The card was most often referred to as representing choices and the poisons within. In our society there is so much addiction and people for the most part don’t even realize it. We drink coffee, eat sugars, drink alcohol, use drugs, eat just to eat, and any number of other behaviors without thinking about the long-term effects. We are so focused on the immediate benefits we forget to think of where we are heading. The unsure posture of the woman shows you her face, she is looking up and backward. She doesn’t see where she is heading, only the choices that will take her there. I feel a very strong emotional connection with the card I created for this project. - Ben Larsen

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Eight of Cups is a deceptive card.  It is about walking away from what doesn't work, but also about being courageous enough to find a path that does.  There is a lot of disappointment within this card - in how things have turned out, in your investment (emotional or material) so far, but there is also hope.  Cutting ties, washing the past away, and making a new journey - away from the old.

Artists Interpretation: The Eight of Cups speaks of one of the recurrent themes in my artwork, which is transformation and renewal. It is about leaving a situation you've been emotionally tied and accommodated to for a long time, but that has represented only stagnation. And then you finally recognize that situation as being harmful to your evolution and decide to do something to change that.  I am a very intuitive person and a firm believer in the power of synchronicity and hidden meanings in certain circumstances of life, so I believe that card might be the guide to something I should learn at this moment. – Patricia Ariel

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Nine of Cups is a very welcome sight in any reading.  If there was a single card which would suggest that you are about to receive all you wish, then this is that card.  There is opulence in this card, the main figure is content - this predicts happiness in all areas of life, but also warns against living too much in the present and celebrating before the journey is over.

Artists Intepretation: "I liked the idea of the 9 of Cups and the ""Inn Keeper"" and the soft, round, symbolism of the cup. The Inn Keeper fit well with me as it can be interpreted as a man or a woman.  I was torn between making it more 'tarot card-esque' and less illustration but that didn't feel right either. It really worked out that the cups cards incorporate things like pearls and coral and that it's a positive card.  I have the Nine of cups and when reading that the Cups was a water element I thought my mermaids would fit perfectly. I also found it fitting to include the Octopus and his 8 arms with one cup left over for the mermaid. It's busy but that's my style. - Maigan Lynn

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Ten of Cups is the card of happiness, emotional stability and joy.  This card shows a happy couple, a happy family, and a comfortable life that you should enjoy now.  This is not showing the end of a journey you are travelling, or a promise for the future.  This is happening now.  There is no opulent setting suggesting riches are heading your way - this is a less tangible wealth, but no less welcome.

Artists Interpretation: For me, the idea of family transcends the one into which you are born. This painting depicts the Strange and Mysterious Lives of Misa and Zoey. They are surrounded by the family that they choose and which chooses them – smiling Skellies, wistful big eye girls, a worrisome teddy bear, and other delicious Dark Little Dearies. Artists Interpretation: The look for the card seemed very bohemian and very gypsy like and I wanted to make my version of that play out more in my card. I wanted the person I created to look vulnerable and open for love that may travel her way. – Princess Mia

Princess M is professional artist who creates abstract portraits and illustrations using watercolor paint and black pen ink. She specializes in surrealist, intricate line work and a stunning color palette. She started her career at the age of 19 and continues to create new art pieces as well as helping other artists with their careers. Princess graced us with her unique art for the first deck in our project.

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Knight of Cups, is the knight of romantic tales, he is the chivalrous, charming knight, riding in on his faithful steed.  He does not rush in, but still manages to sweep you off your feet.  His decisions are all made based upon emotion, so the warning here is that they may not be the best thought out.  If there is a negative to this card, it would be to warn you he may be "all mouth and no trousers".

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: Queen of Cups is a discreet and compassionate card - that friend who keeps her distance when it would be an intrusion, but who sees through your "fine" to understand that there's something wrong.  She is restrained, but full of compassion and emotion.  She is also creative, an appreciator of beauty.  When drawn, she is often advising you to emulate her finer qualities, to show compassion to those around you - maybe you need to throw off the shackles of your work with a creative project.

Artists Interpretation: Water symbolizes change, and I wanted to capture the water in an action shot to give the suspense of what is to come. Viewing the water captured right before it falls, before the breaking point. The water takes different shapes, and falls at different times for each of us on our journeys. -  Alli Wynn

Card Meaning by Author Trish Sullivan: The Cups are emotional cards, and the King is no exception.  But he is the King of his feelings, they do not control him, he controls them.  He is a balanced, happy, caring character, compassionate and considerate of others.  If the King of Cups appears in a reading, he may be directing you to exercise more control over your emotions when dealing with challenges and negativity.  If you are the King, you have a great understanding of the emotions of others and of yourself, which helps you achieve emotional balance and peace.

Artists Interpretation: I believe that if anyone would have complete control over their emotions it would be a wise and ancient creature such as a Dragon. Tammy Pryce originally worked in a glass factory; hand painting on glassware, but now specializes in fantasy and portrait work, working in a variety of media to suit the subject, from digital to pencil. She is also creates intricate, cute and quirky hand-made clay sculptures. Tammy was in the first two decks.
